The GluCath® Intravascular Continuous Glucose Monitor
The GluCath system* combines a unique fluorescent chemistry with a miniaturized fiber-optic platform. The resulting device is uniquely positioned to meet the challenge of safely and effectively implementing a glycemic control program in the ICU environment.
The GluCath system is designed to provide:
- 1)Continuous and direct measurement of plasma glucose in flowing blood, providing clinicians realtime information on the glucose directionality and rate-of-change.
- 2)A non-linear glucose response, providing enhanced resolution in the euglycemic and hypoglycemic ranges. This response is well suited for detecting impending hypoglycemic episodes.
- 3)An intuitive and familiar use paradigm for nursing. Placement of the GluCath sensor in the peripheral vasculature requires only standard IV therapy techniques.
- 4)A handheld, battery-powered instrument, allowing for flexible and convenient monitoring across the continuum of care (i.e. Pre-op→OR→ICU→Step-Down→General Floor).
